Skill Review: Amazon Storytime

Amazon Storytime by Amazon Education Consumer Team is an interactive skill with engaging stories for children aged 5-12. By offering a wide-ranging collection of stories about family, friends, and more, the voice app attempts to elicit interest in kids to listen to bedtime stories. Furthermore, the skill attempts to excite kids with “spin a magic story wheel” backed by a surprise set of stories. With this voice skill, kids get to choose what kind of stories they would like to listen to. Now that’s something parents often struggle with and, therefore they are always on the lookout for different stories to keep their little ones entertained.

Amazon Storytime seems to have roused themselves to the cause by designing something that’s beneficial for both kids and parents alike. The stories narrated by real voice actors come with sound effects to create a distinct appeal. Skipping the much-awaited introduction, the voice skill dives straight into the different options for kids to choose from. The shorter versions seemed far more appealing than the longer narratives. The lengthy stories lacked a narrative hook and seemed to run on leaving no room for interaction. These stories seem to be devised more along the lines of entertainment and less educational in nature. The Amazon Storytime voice app would need to raise the bar to further pique the right quotient of interest in children across the ages of 5-12 to keep them excited throughout.
