This voice skill transforms the iconic concept of business related to the youthful Americana into a pleasurable learning tool for business-making decisions. Owing to the innovative voice-only educational experience the voice app was selected as finalist and winner of Best Educational Skill in their “Alexa Skills Challenge: Kids” competition.

The voice skill which simulates owning a lemonade stand educates in an entertaining way about the financial decisions that need to be taken care of while selling lemonade. The game can be played single-player or up to 8 players. The gameplay kicks off with a $5 seed capital with which the player can use to buy the cups, advertising signs as well as decide the price for a glass of lemonade to be sold in a day. The player is expected to forecast sales, make profitable predictions, and decisions to carry forward the lemonade business. Alexa contributes to the progress of each day by giving weather updates for each simulated day. The user posing as the entrepreneur is expected to handle the allotted marketing assets with prudence. The educational twist to the unique gaming experience earns it an endearing quality. It is interesting how the skill provides clear-cut instructions to aid the young entrepreneur to run the lemonade stand. The player is allowed up to 12 days to play the game before the financial and decision-making skills are put to test in correlation with the weather forecast. In case the turnover reflects a profitable gain, then the user will be ranked in the leaderboard at the end of day 12 of the game. Also, the skill allows the ability to resume from where left off, which is yet another benefit. To add to it, the voice app also supports a robust “Help” voice command that aids the user to navigate the skill without difficulty. Well, that being said, there seem to be a few downsides that could let down the player at times. Not all of the voice commands displayed on Alexa Skills Store page are available to the user. There’s an inconsistency and lack of efficiency when it comes to handling the user’s request at random instances. To upgrade the business model with neon signs, the user will need to resort to a subscription package.
